Lauren Treece

The American photographer manually manipulates the 35mm film during the developing process, adding hot and cold water to achieve the desired layered, cosmic effect. She also works with Polaroid film - using the unpredictability of this medium to her advantage.

I'm a big fan of film, prefering its grainy and organic results rather than the sometimes sterile and cold look of digital prints. I'm also a sucker for anything that looks a bit as if it's straight outta 1967, so Lauren's work certainly pleases my inner flower child.

Lauren explains her work by saying that she is "drawn towards photography that looks like it shouldn't be possible or tangible...hovering on the brink of lucidity and dreams". Far out!
